Self-Care Techniques
So much has changed over the last month as we deal with the realities of the Covid-19 virus. We are all living with uncertainty, isolation, and worry about our health and the health of our loved ones, making it easy to feel stressed and overwhelmed. Whether you are students, parents, family members or staff, your Greater Clark family wants to thank you for your patience as we navigate these uncharted waters, and we want you to know we are here to support you in the days and weeks ahead.
We know that we can get through this together and that it is important to take care of ourselves while we are staying healthy at home. There are many resources available to help us manage these uncertain times. We hope to share some tips and ideas that may help you and your families stay safe and connected as we get through this time together.
Self Care Tips During Covid-19
- Create a routine, structure or schedule for your day
Stress thrives in unpredictability. Building a consistent and predictable daily routine can reduce & ease stress.
- Stay connected with others while keeping physical distance
Relationships & connections are natural and important in maintaining our health & wellbeing. Create a sense of connection by reaching out to others by phone, social media & technology. Interact with those in your home in routine & creative ways — play games, cook meals together, have conversations, maybe even try singing & dancing together!
- Keep physically & mentally active
It is easy to become paralyzed or numb when we become overwhelmed. Activating our brains & bodies in productive ways can balance the effects of stress. Walk, exercise, build something, clean something, dance, do a puzzle, cook, draw, read, yoga — be creative in activating your brain & body!
- Know the facts but limit social media & Covid conversations
This is truly overwhelming and too much focus on the negative can keep us stuck in survival mode. Make sure to turn off the tv, news, and social media in order to take time for yourself and focus on something positive or happy (it’s okay to have fun and enjoy yourself!).
- Stay safe & take care of each other
Stay healthy at home when you can & follow physical distancing guidelines when you need to go out. Wash your hands & avoid touching your face. Most importantly, take care of yourself and the people around you!
Stay Safe & Connected during these uncertain times!
