Carnegie Hall

It was the experience of a lifetime for Jeffersonville High School choir students, who performed on the top stage in the nation: Carnegie Hall in New York City!

This stage is known for hosting the world’s best artists, including Tchaikovsky, Dvořák, Mahler, Bartók, George Gershwin, Billie Holiday, Judy Garland, The Beatles and many more.

Congratulations, Red Devils!

CES Groundbreaking

Construction has now started on the new Charlestown Elementary School!

The new school, which will be built at the current Jonathan Jennings Elementary location, will feature 142,555 square feet, making it one of the largest elementary schools in the state.

“As Charlestown and River Ridge continue to grow, we wanted a school that could address the changing needs of our dynamic community,” said Superintendent Mark Laughner. “This new building will do that and more. It will feature all the latest technology, integrated safety features, and even a slide that the students will use as a special reward. It will be large enough for all our Charlestown students in pre-k through grade 5 with room to grow.”

Currently, Pleasant Ridge Elementary houses students from pre-K to 2nd grade, while students in 3rd through 5th grade attend Jonathan Jennings.

This new building is one of two that are scheduled to start construction this year. Thomas Jefferson Elementary and Wilson Elementary will combine into Pike Elementary, which is scheduled to break ground in the fall. Pike Elementary and Charlestown Elementary are both slated to open in time for the 2025-26 school year.

Academy Spotlight

As a part of their Freshman Seminar class, all Freshman Academy students at Charlestown High School participated in mock interviews with local business professionals.

To prepare for this, students created resumes and wrote ‘elevator’ speeches. Both of these were aligned with an entry-level, part-time job that would provide the student with the necessary skills and experiences that will better prepare them for their future careers.

Through this experience, students demonstrated how to respond to constructive criticism and how to dress professionally for an interview.

Thank you to our community business partners for helping with this important lesson.
