The Academies Section

As a district, we are incredibly proud to recognize Leanna Rotondo, a rising young entrepreneur whose journey with the StartEDup Foundation and through the Innovate WithIN pitch competitions reflects the innovative spirit we aim to cultivate in all our students.

Leanna’s original business idea, GripGuard Soccer Sox, offers an innovative and practical solution to help athletes improve their performance and stay safe on the field. With support from her strategic marketing teacher, she first pitched this idea at the Region 6 competition hosted at Maker13, where her creativity, professionalism, and preparation stood out among a talented group of peers. Although she wasn’t initially named a top finalist, Leanna was later selected as a wild card finalist, earning her a well-deserved invitation to the Innovate WithIN State Finals.

Prior to the finals, Leanna attended a two-day bootcamp experience at Butler University’s Lacy School of Business to refine her business model and polish her pitch.  This was a transformational experience that allowed her to learn firsthand from founders, entrepreneurs, and other innovative leaders. You can see the bootcamp and Leanna in action by clicking here.

Leanna’s journey is a powerful example of the opportunities that open up when students are supported by dedicated educators and a district that believes in real-world, hands-on learning. Even though she did not walk away as the sole winner, we are extremely proud of her success and excited to see what the future holds for her and other student innovators across our district.
