Academies

During September, the Engineering & Advanced Manufacturing Academy provided students with invaluable, real-world learning experiences through their participation in Manufacturing Week. Select seniors from the academy were hosted at Amatrol, where they explored diverse career pathways within the manufacturing industry and gained insights into local economic development projects supported by One Southern Indiana (1si). This experience culminated in a tour of Amatrol’s facilities, where students gained a detailed insight into their careers and the equipment they manufacture to help other manufacturers upskill their workforce. Meanwhile, upperclassmen attended showcases at Maker13 and the NoCo Art District, where they engaged directly with local manufacturers and the organizations that provide workforce development for the industry. This week of events highlights the Academies of Greater Clark and its commitment to fostering robust business partnerships that provide students with hands-on, career-aligned opportunities that go beyond the traditional classroom. This deeper engagement helps students develop critical skills, explore their passions, and align their high school education with future post-secondary and career goals.

Now that the first quarter has wrapped up for the 2025-2026 school year, we want to take a moment to recognize some of the amazing students and teachers that make their career-themed academy shine.

A Beautiful Act of Support at New Washington Elementary

New Washington Elementary preschoolers recently shared a heartfelt moment with their classmate, Leyla, who was recently diagnosed with cancer. Because Leyla lives just across the street, preschool teacher Mrs. Danni coordinated with staff to organize a walking field trip so the students could visit her at home. With the help of the school’s SRO, the preschoolers delivered handmade cards and signs filled with messages of love and encouragement from classmates and schoolmates.

To find ways to support Leyla through her treatments or stay up to date on her journey, follow New Washington Elementary on Facebook.
