July Parent Update
July 21, 2020
Greater Clark County Schools is committed to launching the 2020-2021 school year on Wednesday, July 29th. We know some area school districts are delaying their start for two weeks; however, we have consulted with Dr. Yazel from the Clark County Health Department and he supports our start date as planned. Our long history with being a 1:1 district has helped us to plan and prepare for the upcoming school year.
The first month of this school year is vital in making sure teachers meet their students, we get Chromebooks in hand, and we establish our communication structures so that if this pandemic causes us to go into prolonged eLearning windows, parents are prepared and ready for what is to come next. We have invested in additional training for our teachers and staff members to build upon our previous eLearning program so that we can deliver an even higher quality of virtual learning experiences. The original response to Covid-19 was a shock to everyone; however, we are committed to making the new way of ongoing educational delivery structured so that we are not phased by potential school building closures.
Mask Recommendation/Requirement Update
After conferring with Dr. Yazel and the Clark County Health Department over the weekend, the superintendent is recommending to the board the following addendum to the mask policy.
All students in grades 6-12 will be required to wear masks, or face coverings, in school when they are unable to social distance unless they have an underlying health issue that precludes them from wearing a mask. Also, all Greater Clark staff will be required to wear masks, or face coverings in school when they are unable to social distance unless they have an underlying health issue that precludes them from wearing a mask.
This means all staff and 6th-12th grade students will be expected to have a mask, or face covering, so they are able to wear it at times when social distancing is not possible. GCCS will have masks in reserve for when students lose or forget their face coverings.

Back to School Nights/Open Houses
This is just a reminder that schools are not hosting public open house nights this year. The transition events for grades such as Kindergarten, 6th and 9th grade are being held as orientation for the students. To limit exposure to Covid-19, we are not hosting our school-wide events.
